Amma’s Charitable Meal Program in Massachusetts
Since April 2008, local sevites and friends, have been participating in the Tuesday Meals Program at the First Parish Church in Harvard Square. We gather every Tuesday evening at the Church to help Church members prepare and serve dinner and to assist in clean up. In addition to this weekly seva, we also have organized a monthly Sunday Meals Program. We prepare the food in our own homes and deliver the meal ready-to-eat, to a shelter in Cambridge.
We invite you to join our team of Mother’s Kitchen volunteers. Help us bring nourishing meals to those in need. Please contact Pam Reich if you have questions or wish to be a part of Mother’s Kitchen.
Mother’s Kitchen Coordinator
Mother’s Kitchen started in Boston in 1998 in response to AMMA’ s directive to have her children serve and feed the poor. A female devotee, inspired by AMMA’s call to her Satsang, pioneered Mother’s Kitchen at a homeless shelter in Cambridge, MA. The project was announced at a Satsang meeting and a handful of devotees volunteered to cook meals at home and deliver the meals to the shelter. Mother’s Kitchen expanded in 2000, under the leadership of another devotee coordinator, to include a second and larger shelter for women with children in the city of Boston. At this center, over 1,000 meals were cooked and served to homeless women and children. Devotees from different locations in Massachusetts and other states in New England participated in this seva. In total, over 3000 meals have been served since 1998 at shelters in Boston and Cambridge, MA.
