Mother’s Kitchen: Sunday Meals

Guidelines

2011 Upcoming Dates for Sunday Meals

August 21

Volunteering

On the 3rd Sunday of each month five or six volunteers provide a healthful vegetarian meal for thirty guests at a privately owned, non-profit transitional housing facility in the Central Square area of Cambridge. Mother’s Cooks prepare the meal in the homes and deliver to the shelter before lunch Sunday. Volunteers are recruited 1-2 weeks before so plenty of time is allowed for coordinating cooking and delivery.

Cooking

Usually, one person makes a soup, one person provides the salad, 1-2 people bake the lasagna, one person provides the dessert and another provides the bread.  Recipes for the soup and lasagna may be found on the Recipes page. If you are providing the salad, dessert or bread, everything is vegetarian, but the rest is up to your discretion. Just remember, we are serving Our Beloved Mother’s darling children.  Meals should be prepared (or bought) with love and care!

Delivery

All food is delivered ready to eat, no later than 11:00 am on Sunday.  It can be arranged to drop off the food on Saturday afternoon or evening, if it is more convenient.  Please contact Pam to confirm your drop off time.  The shelter address is 109 School Street in Central Square Cambridge.  There is a “No Parking Here to Corner” spot just after the turn onto School Street on the right side of the street.  This is directly across from the shelter. We have found it ok to park, with flashers on, for the few minutes that it takes to bring the food inside. The Shelter is a tan triple decker with a front porch and stairs. Ring the bell and someone will let you in.  Let them know that you are from Mother’s Kitchen and you are delivering food for the Sunday meal.  If you have any questions or trouble please call Pam at 339-224-175.

Directions

As you come down School Street, the Shelter is the first house on your left.   School Street is a one way and is off Bishop Allen. Bishop Allen runs parallel to Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square.   If you are coming into Central Square off of Memorial drive and you turn down River Street, you can go straight at the first light (crossing over Mass Ave) and turn right at the next light, onto Bishop Allen.  You will cross Columbia and then School Street will be the next left.  It’s a wide left.  Any problems, please call Pam at 339-224-1725.
